Craft Ears Aurum UIEM

$2,199 $2,199

Aurum arrives: Craft Ears enter phase two of their growth not just content to experiment with hybrids, but tri-brids too. An exciting W-shaped flagship emerges with electrostatic high frequency drivers entering the fray, flanking four balanced armatures all propped up by one large 10mm dynamic driver.

W-shaped or evenly represented in the bass, mids and treble, depending on how you want to look at it. But what's not for debate is it wouldn't be Craft Ears to just count out drivers.

Jedrek Nowicki releases Aurum as far greater than the sum of its parts through handy acoustic tools first seen in Craft Six. Ear Fidelity hails this flagship "one of the best CIEMs on the market at this price range"It became Everyday Listening's "personal benchmark around its asking price and will likely remain so for some time to come". [See Product Desc. Product Description

Aurum's dual electrostatic drivers show up in Space Expansion System (SES) 2.0. A precisely calculated, computer modelled horn structure placed at the output to act as an acoustic amplifier sees the SPL from notoriously insensitive Sonions boosted naturally by the enclosure.

SES 2.0 naturally bypasses any distortion caused by overly taxing the electrostatic units for more volume. Aurum presents Singapore with an electrostatic treble that promises both quantity, and quality.

Excitement about the high frequencies shouldn't distract audiophiles from Aurum's low ones, though. The polyethylene naphthalate (PEN) dynamic driver acts as a subwoofer with impressive presence in the sub-bass region.

PEN is a material ZMF Headphones bring to bear in their flagship Vérité since it "has more dynamic response than a metal". Aurum's single low driver does the work of many balanced armatures and uses PEN's excellent damping to its advantage, rising cleanly up without modal distortion to meet its mid-range drivers in a perfect hand-off that's clean and coherent.

Seven drivers are brought together by a crossover that works as a resistive load, maintaining a flatter impedance throughout the frequency range for a consistent response with more sources, whether mobile phone or high output impedance music player.

It's never about the drivers, but rather Craft Ears' careful optimisation once again to provide the platform for their tools to perform – brought beautifully together in a flagship such as Aurum.

Aurum is a low-impedance IEM that will excel when driven by Questyle Audio's current-mode M12, and is also available in custom (CIEM) form. Otherwise, explore the rest of Zepp's Craft Ears range here or view our other universal (UIEM) options here.
