    iFi Zen Blue 3

The headline of ZEN Blue 3 might be its Bluetooth 5.4 aptX Lossless, but that doesn't quite cover all the functions iFi Audio's new desktop hub offers. It's easy to recommend for Audiophile-Heaven. With the ability to also act as a wired DAC, accept RCA line inputs and transmit that to your Bluetooth earphones and headphones, ZEN Blue 3 really could be called the beating heart of your digital incomings and outgoings. [See Product Desc. For More] In its most basic function, iFi Audio's newest Bluetooth gizmo receives your stream in either LDAC or Qualcomm's newest codec aptX Lossless, before decoding that via a separate ESS Technology DAC and outputting via 4.4mm line-output that can feed an amplifier with balanced inputs. But, change ZEN Blue 3 to accept analog line-inputs from your turntable, or USB or S/PDIF in. Then proceed to switch modes to 'Transmitter', and enjoy as the ADC within spits out data to your nearest Bluetooth devices! It's a fantastic way to enjoy the sound of vinyl on your wireless devices, for example. And while you may not use all the features now, never say never when ZEN Blue 3's has got you covered in the future. Indeed, if iFi's giving, we're accepting! Check out the rest of their catalogue here, or view all our matching Bluetooth devices that could connect to ZEN Blue 3 here.

iFi Zen CAN 3iFi Zen CAN 3

    iFi Zen CAN 3

iFi Audio's newest Zen CAN 3 puts flagship technology into an affordable 4.4mm balanced amplifier, merging futuristic xMEMS capability with good old school Class A. Even as we wait on xMEMS to achieve widespread availability, there's so much for the budding audiophile to enjoy with Zen CAN 3. It's a versatile little beast to Headfonia and a complete amplifier for its price to Headfonics. Its maximum power output of 2 whole discrete Class A watts on balanced 4.4mm promises to drive your cans to their maximum potential. [See Product Desc. For More] What is even more impressive about Zen CAN 3, though, is its practicality for listeners of entry-level headphones, right up to easy-to-drive Focal and IEM flagships. iFi's use of their custom 'Operationsverstärker' op-amps means that they're fully in charge of how much – or importantly, how little – gain is applied internally to Zen CAN 3. This mini marvel is capable of working at unity gain at the push of a button. With 0dB of gain applied to the incoming signal, Zen CAN 3 is realistically able to drive 90 per cent of transducers out there, from the easiest to the most difficult, without suffering any noise penalty. It's unlikely users will ever find it necessary to go beyond unity gain on their iFi, allowing listeners to climb up their knob where signal-to-noise can reach a leading 125dB, while always enjoying perfect channel balance. Zen CAN 3's flexibility doesn't stop there. With built-in 'Movie' and 'Gain' modes on top of favourites like XBass and XSpace, all implemented in the analog domain without lossy digital EQ, iFi owners can tweak the Zen CAN 3 to their exact liking. Feed Zen CAN 3 signal from iFi's own Zen DAC 3 and Zen Blue 3, or take hip-dac 3 on the go as you explore the rest of their range here.

    PlusSound Allegro UIEMPlusSound Allegro UIEM

    PlusSound Allegro UIEM

Should we greet a company that builds cables for other IEMs with surprise, when they approach the summit with their own IEM release? If there were expectations, then they certainly had not been as great as Allegro – PlusSound's flagship tri-brid IEM that's their take on what 12 drivers can really do. Headfonics awarded nearly full marks after being taken by surprise by Allegro's performance. Twister6 praised a flawless first execution. This is PlusSound at the forefront of high-end personal audio, moving to the centre of your consideration with dual dynamic drivers in push-pull isobaric configuration, six balanced armatures and four electrostatic tweeters coaxially mounted in Allegro's nozzle. Allegro's supporting cast is stellar. A crossover that's a work of art keeps her drivers ticking over as one sound and quietly showcases PlusSound's pedigree as an IEM builder. A sleeping giant, now awakened, launching a flagship that packs a bass that excites, an accurate, articulate and natural mid-range, and no shortage of treble extension. And cables are brilliant as expected, with choice of Copper+ or Hybrid+ premium 2-in-1 shield coax type litz connecting you to sources that highlight the vast technical ability Allegro is capable of. [See Product Desc. For More] Cayin Audio's N8ii and HiBy Music's RS8 are naturally worthy of feeding Allegro. But part of PlusSound's brilliance here was designing a crossover that operates at a virtually flat 10ohm impedance and electrical phase, while granting their first flagship 112dB/mW of sensitivity.  Allegro will always be a powerhouse that scales based on source quality, but as a fairly benign load all listeners will enjoy excellent sound from more humble DAC/amps and music players.  Indeed, said crossover is the platform to perform for Allegro's drivers. PlusSound's low-order network feeds both dynamic driver bass and electrostatic treble sections. Their slow frequency roll-off slopes ensure accurate phase reproduction and maximum cohesion in their assigned audible band. And these simpler, lower-order signal paths utilise fewer components such that the crossover saps as little power as possible, ensuring maximum transparency, dynamics and detail reach the bass and treble units. Allegro's dual dynamic drivers, operating in push-pull isobaric fashion, are more than capable of keeping up with the extended range they operate in. Both stiff yet well-damped as they rise higher in frequency, these large 10mm drivers are mounted in a 3D-printed acoustic enclosure with a massive rear vent. That aids decompression out of phase, lowering air resistance within their chamber for greater excursion and better drive. PlusSound similarly mounted Allegro's electrostat tweeters where they would have maximum effectiveness. Placed coaxially against the IEM spout for the best directivity, their wide-frequency bandwidth extends up into the ether. Their low-order crossover sees these Sonion electrets enjoy the best sensitivity and power-to-SPL conversion, for audibly excellent dynamic ability. In between are six mid-range balanced armature drivers, this time working under high-order slopes to keep them in their ideal range of reproduction to avoid unduly taxing them. All 12 drivers are masterfully placed in Allegro's shell for maximum frequency and time-domain performance connected by Copper XS, an in-house designed cryogenically-treated Type 6 UP-OCC wire with proprietary insulation. PlusSound's attention to detail extended to their accessorisation, with custom-designed silicone eartips for ideal acoustics beyond the shell showcasing the technical potential of Allegro. And PlusSound's flagship Exo Copper+/Hybrid+ cables are included for the perfect signal path to source, placing their secondary twisted litz wire bundle used as the core and unique silver shielding to reduce EMI for listening not plagued by interference.  Allegro packs quality inside and out. Its polished, anodised, cryogenically-treated aluminum faceplate, body and nozzle carved from seven-axis CNC, and rhodium-plated tellurium copper 2-pin connectors, guarantee PlusSound's flagship will be as life-proof as its sound is timeless. Proudly carry Allegro in PlusSound's leather storage case cum IEM display stand whether you listen on the go or at home. Such is her performance that you'll never want it to leave your side. Because if you were surprised by PlusSound's entry into the high-end IEM arena, then that shock extends to the IEM clinic they just put on after over two years of research & development. While you're enjoying Allegro, explore how you can cable up your other transducers with PlusSound here, or view our other favourite IEMs here.

    Questyle M12iQuestyle M12i

    Questyle M12i

Questyle Audio adhere faithfully to current-mode amplification at all form factors, their dedication to this technology extending down to their thumbdrive-sized DAC dongle, the M12i – comes with MFi certification for guaranteed usability with Apple products. It's easy to hear why, if audible results count to you. Operating in current-mode, audio signal gets passed in current instead of the more standard voltage. This eliminates the lag time of the signal that might otherwise occur, as it builds up at the capacitances in the circuit – current signal passes through unhindered as compared to voltage, with speed and ease. [See Product Desc. For More] By doing away with the issue of transmission delay in M12i, Questyle virtually eliminates any of the harshness caused by the intermodulation distortion associated with high capacitance, solid-state circuits. Typical of their high-end offerings, M12i presents detail smoothly and organically without exaggerated warmth or bloat. It easily earned Stereophile's praise for its transparency. Another effect of being unhindered by capacitance in the signal path means that huge signal bandwidth is possible, leading to phase response being accurately preserved in the human hearing range. Indeed, to hear current-mode is to hear a naturalness to music not encountered before in a conventional circuit, and Questyle build M12i as an affordable entry to such a topology. Happily use with any low-impedance device (current signals excel the closer a load is to ground) such as Focal's new line of headphones – Radiance, Celestee and Clear MG – plus Rosson Audio Design and CIEM heavyweights Craft Ears and Empire Ears. Questyle M15CQuestyle M15C

    Questyle M15C

The loved and respected M15 format was perfect for Questyle Audio to debut its first Cirrus Logic DAC. M15C employs the increasingly popular CS43198 DAC/amp and partners it with its trademark current-mode amplification. With MFi certification for guaranteed compatibility with Apple products, and the power needed to drive the low impedances of the latest flagship earphones, M15C could be the only dongle you'll need. Unlike any other dongle DAC/amp, Questyle's current-mode amplification eliminates the lag time of the signal that might otherwise occur, as it builds up at the capacitances in the circuit – current signal passes through unhindered as compared to voltage, with speed and ease. [See Product Desc. For More] By doing away with the issue of transmission delay in M15C, Questyle virtually eliminates any of the harshness caused by the intermodulation distortion associated with high capacitance, solid-state circuits. M15C decodes digital via its Cirrus Logic CS43198 DAC smoothly and organically, without exaggerated warmth or bloat.  That small signal then takes advantage of being unhindered by capacitance in the signal path. An added benefit from current-mode amplification is that huge signal bandwidth is possible, leading to phase response being accurately preserved in the human hearing range. Indeed, to hear current-mode is to hear a naturalness to music not encountered before in a conventional circuit, and Questyle build M15C as an affordable entry to such a topology. Happily use with any low-impedance device (current signals excel the closer a load is to ground) such as Rosson Audio Designs, the Vision Ears Elysium EXT, plus CIEM heavyweights Craft Ears and Empire Ears – particularly the latter's Triton, Odin and Legend Evo. Driving low impedances is M15C's forte. But bridge-tied load balanced operation now means this dongle also doubles voltage swing compared to single-ended operation, to drive higher impedances credibly too. Questyle M18i

M18i: a truly smart Bluetooth 5.4 Qualcomm® aptX™ HD and LDAC DAC/amp for 2025. Questyle Audio's current-mode amplification is so well established by now, the only way to improve it was to build up the capability of the decoding section around this USB-C wired and Bluetooth unwired overachiever. In addition to Bluetooth, gaining over its M15C and M15i brethren – even taking the fight to the flagship CMA18P – is M18i's dual DAC. Leveraging Questyle's intimate relationship with ESS Technology, two ES9219Q DACs appear in dual-mono design.  Coupled with Questyle's proprietary Three-Tier Architecture (TTA) DAC framework, M18i leverages the internal analog volume controls aboard its ES9219Q pair to deliver exceptional channel separation, minimal distortion and an expansive dynamic range, helped by the clean supply from its onboard battery. Take advantage of this superb decoding backbone to get your music aboard M18i. On top of achieving Apple's Made For iPhone (MFi) USB certification, M18i marks a significant milestone as Questyle's inaugural product to incorporate Qualcomm's cutting-edge Snapdragon Sound technology delivering high-resolution audio with low latency and robust connectivity. All this, so you can enjoy Questyle's now-legendary current-mode amplification in a maximum of ways. Perfect for driving the intimidating low impedances of flagship earphones from Empire Ears, Nightjar Acoustics, Subtonic Audio and Symphonium Audio. [See Product Desc. Helped by the analog volume controls aboard its ESS DACs, increasing and decreasing both signal and noise at the same time, M18i counts on a small-signal that is a lot more linear than the average Questyle, and certainly other dongles. You'll want to get your music aboard M18i. Integrating Qualcomm's advanced next-generation Snapdragon Sound™ technology, a feature rigorously certified by both Qualcomm and Sony LDAC, M18i delivers an exceptional wireless audio experience. Questyle have unlocked the potential of Qualcomm's aptX Adaptive and aptX HD audio codecs, enabling the transmission of wireless lossless Bluetooth audio at CD-quality 16-bit 44.1kHz, and high-resolution audio at 24-bit 48kHz and 96kHz, suitable for a wide range of wireless earbuds and headphones. M18i further enhances user flexibility by supporting seamless transitions between lossless Bluetooth and USB DAC modes, catering to both wired and wireless listening preferences. By paying attention to the smallest details, you can distinguish every nuance and subtle characteristics, in astonishingly faithful sound reproduction. At the other end of the spectrum, IER-Z1R's 12mm dynamic driver's diaphragm consists of magnesium dome and aluminium-coated LCP.  Sony's full-range driver offers deep bass and fine mid-high sound – the perfect foundation for a balanced armature mid driver equipped with a magnesium diaphragm, silver-coated copper voice coil and gold-plated terminals.
